Tunnel Hill Winery
Tunnel Hill Winery is our small, artisan winery at the Sunshine Farm.
Denny Evans planted the first grapes in 2003 and bottled our first vintage in 2006. We currently have 9 acres of grapes in production – blocks of Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Syrah – and are preparing more ground to plant new varietals.
Right now we produce 500 cases a year and plan to expand production eventually to 2000 cases. Most of our wine is sold directly out of our tasting room, though it can also be enjoyed at some local restaurants or sent directly to your doorstep through our wine club.
The name “Tunnel Hill” comes from the Knapp’s Hill Tunnel which you pass through on your way to Wenatchee. The stone that was used to build the tasting room and the stone cottage comes from the original excavation of the tunnel in 1937. The stone cottage is known to many as Ma Rainier’s place. Mrs. Rainier was a teacher in the Chelan schools for 40 years and lived in the house until her death.
Over the past few years, we have worked with stonemason Felipe Banuelos to expand the original stone building that now houses the tasting room. We’ve also added the stone walls that line the driveway and the terraced waterfall garden.
Throughout the summer, Tunnel Hill winery hosts a number of events, including Thursday Happy Hours with Guy Evans on Piano and our Summer Picnic Concert Series. We also host weddings.
Come pay us a visit. You will enjoy yourself.
