Grass-Fed Beef

We raise about ten steers each year on pasture here at the Sunshine Farm.
Most of it we sell by the half or by the quarter, though we now have individual cuts and ground beef for sale at the Sunshine Farm Market.
Sunlight, nutritious pasture, and fresh air make for a healthy and happy cow. Our animals never receive hormones or antibiotics. They are raised on grass, as a cow should be. For the last few months of their lives, grain is added to their diet to mellow the flavor of the beef. Our customers consistently praise the flavor and texture of this beef.
By the Half or By The Quarter
When is the beef available?
We will not have any custom cut beef available until Fall 2012. If you are interested in reserving beef, please make sure you’re on our email list so you’ll know when you can reserve your quarter or half.
We will have individual cuts of beef for sale at the Sunshine Farm Market when we open in April 2012.
How much beef is it?
A half a beef will feed a family of four for one year. Its approximately 180-250 lbs of beef, which will fill most of a full-sized freezer. A quarter beef will feed a family of two for a year—approximately 90-125 lbs of beef.
Logistics
The butcher date this year is Dec. 2. You must pick up your own beef at the butcher shop in Omak in mid December. More specific information will be sent out closer to the butcher date.
Cut Sheet
You are able to specify the types of cuts you would like. Here is our cut sheet and description of cuts.
Cost
The total cost for a half a beef ranges from $800 to $1100 depending on the size of the animal. The total cost of a quarter ranges from $450 to $600. The cost includes a $2.50/lb to The Sunshine Farm when you buy a half ($2.75/lb when you buy a quarter) and $.50/lb to the butcher per pound hanging weight.
